The unveiling of the Trump presidential library plan has ignited a storm of fascination and criticism, as a towering vision of gold and grandeur emerges over the skyline of Miami.

A Monumental Vision Takes Shape

Plans released Monday night reveal a massive 50-story structure dedicated to Donald Trump, designed to dominate the waterfront like a gilded colossus. A 1-minute, 40-second video showcased a building drenched in Trump’s signature gold aesthetic, complete with a giant statue of the former president.

Inside, the spectacle continues: the lobby is set to house Air Force One—specifically a $400 million Boeing jet reportedly gifted by Qatar—transforming the space into something closer to a museum-meets-monument.

The proposed tower would rise above nearby landmarks, including the historic Miami Freedom Tower, long regarded as a symbol of refuge and resistance against oppression.

Political Praise and Swift Criticism

Eric Trump, the former president’s son and co-chair of the nonprofit backing the project, hailed the design as a “lasting testament” to both Trump’s presidency and his legacy as a developer.

The announcement coincided with another symbolic move: Ron DeSantis signed legislation renaming Palm Beach International Airport in Trump’s honor.

Yet admiration was far from universal.

The office of Gavin Newsom mocked the design, comparing its golden statue to similar grandiose monuments erected by global strongmen. Author Rutger Bregman added a sharp jab, likening the imagery to biblical idolatry.

Land Deal Controversy Resurfaces

Behind the shimmering façade lies a contentious land transfer. The waterfront site earmarked for the project was previously owned by Miami-Dade College before being handed to Eric Trump’s foundation.

The transaction faced legal challenges, with critics arguing the college failed to provide sufficient public notice before approving the deal. A federal judge initially blocked the transfer, but that ruling was later overturned. Trustees ultimately voted again to transfer the land to the state of Florida, which then passed it on to the foundation.

Marvin Dunn, a retired professor who filed the lawsuit, criticized the move as a “land giveaway,” questioning the structure and transparency of the foundation behind the project.

No Timeline, Big Ambitions

Despite the sweeping vision, the video offered no clear construction timeline. The library is expected to be built after Trump leaves office in January 2029.

Plans also include an amphitheater and detailed recreations of the Oval Office and the controversial ballroom project tied to the White House.

Eric Trump defended the proposal, saying Miami deserves a structure unlike anything seen before—promising a “masterpiece” that would redefine architectural ambition.
