The Latest on the Russia Investigation
The Russia investigation has attracted new speculation and controversy in this month alone. Americans recently learned that Cohen will serve 36 months in prison for tax evasion, campaign finance violations, and other crimes. Since his sentencing, Cohen has spoken out, stating that Trump ordered him to commit crimes. However, the president strongly denied Cohen’s accusations; Trump also maintains that Cohen misrepresented his employment for the sake of a more lenient sentencing.
Mueller’s ongoing investigation has also prompted the downfall of Michael Flynn, the president’s former national security adviser. In 2017, Flynn admitted to purposefully deceiving the FBI during the Russia probe. While some conservatives have questioned whether or not Flynn fell victim to deception, Mueller claims that authorities never manipulated Flynn into deceiving them.
