On New Year’s Eve, President Donald Trump urged Democrats to work with him on border security. The president’s appeal also comes after day ten of a government shutdown. The government officially closed on Friday, December 21, 2018; this occurred after the president and Democratic leaders failed to reach a resolution on border security.
A Closer Look at President Trump’s Appeal
The president of the United States urged Democrats to work with him via Twitter on Monday morning. His tweet reads as follows:
I’m in the Oval Office. Democrats, come back from vacation now and give us the votes necessary for Border Security, including the Wall. You voted yes in 2006 and 2013. One more yes, but with me in office, I’ll get it built, and Fast!

Democrats on Vacation
The president’s tweet comes after the press caught wind of House Minority Leader Pelosi’s luxurious vacation. Many conservatives stated that Pelosi should have waited until the government re-opened prior to flying off to Hawaii. Trump supporters also noted that the president actually canceled a planned trip to Florida in order to work in Washington.
Previous Democratic Support for Legal Immigration
Many right-leaning individuals have opined that Democratic opposition to the border ultimately revolves around resisting Trump. Since the president’s fight for legal immigration, various clips of Democratic leaders condemning illegal immigration have surfaced on social media. However, Americans who lean left still maintain arguably lax positions on immigration and enforcing immigration laws.
The Border Wall Battle
With hours left until 2019, President Trump and Democrats still remain deadlocked in a battle over the border wall. The president remains determined to obtain the needed $5 billion dollars; Democratic leaders, conversely, maintain their position that Trump will not get his wall.
