In a bold move, Ukraine struck the same building in central Moscow for the second time in just 48 hours. Ukraine drones are attacking strategic targets in the capital city. The drone attack was at least the fourth attempt in the last 8 days.

Russia's Defense Ministry reported that two other drones were shot down on the outskirts of Moscow, while a third drone managed to hit the 21st floor of a tower that was already damaged in a previous strike over the weekend. 

The attack resulted in one person being injured, according to Oleg Synegubov, the regional military administrator.

Ukraine Drones Target the Heart of the Russian Capital

Surprisingly, Ukraine has not explicitly confirmed or denied responsibility for the attacks within Russia's borders, but Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other high-ranking officials have hinted that such strikes are part of their new strategy.

The evidence gathered from the recent overnight attacks strongly suggests that a Ukrainian-made long-range drone was used in the operation, corroborating a recent New York Times article.

Mykhailo Podolyak, an adviser to President Zelensky, expressed on social media that Moscow seems to be adjusting to the reality of a full-fledged war. The drone strikes appear to be a response to Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, with Ukrainian leaders asserting that targeting sites within Russia is a legitimate measure in their fight to protect their country.

However, the attacks inside Russia, though concerning, are minor in comparison to the destruction being inflicted by Moscow's troops on Ukrainian soil. The conflict has seen a devastating toll on civilians, with thousands of homes and businesses damaged or destroyed. UNESCO has also reported that 274 cultural sites in Ukraine have been damaged since the conflict's outbreak in February of the previous year.

The glass-facade high rise that was targeted in Moscow housed the ministries of digital development, economy, and industrial development. Russia's Defense Ministry stated that the drone used in the attack was electronically jammed and lost control before crashing into the building, but details about injuries were not immediately available.

The drone attacks represent a definite escalation.

Ukraine’s leaders are indicating the drone attacks are designed to fight off Moscow’s invasion of their country. Ukraine President Zelensky recently said that the war “is returning to the territory of Russia — to its symbolic centers and military bases,” calling such encroachments “inevitable, natural and absolutely fair.”
