On April 10, NASA made a groundbreaking announcement, revealing the crew for its highly anticipated 2024 lunar voyage, known as Artemis II. This mission will mark the first manned moon mission in over five decades since the historic Apollo missions.
Among the crew, Victor J. Glover, a trailblazing astronaut, will make history as the first Black astronaut to visit the moon.
NASA has a long and storied history of sending astronauts into space, with over 350 individuals having traveled beyond Earth’s atmosphere. However, only 13 of them have been Black. And this makes Glover’s upcoming mission a significant milestone in space exploration and representation.
Glover’s achievements and qualifications are impressive. Hailing from Pomona, California, he holds a Bachelor of Science degree in general engineering from California Polytechnic State University.
He has also obtained multiple advanced degrees, including a Master of Science degree in flight test engineering from the Air University at Edwards Air Force Base. He holds a Master of Science degree in systems engineering from the Naval Postgraduate School. And a Master of Military Operational Art and Science from the Air University in Montgomery, Alabama.
