Within the past few years, Florida's gone from being a swing state to being reliably red.

The election of Gov. Ron DeSantis helped set this in motion, as did DeSantis not bowing down to pressure to follow in the footsteps of how blue states responded to COVID.

Because of this, DeSantis attracted a ton of new residents into Florida, people who were fleeing the tyranny in blue states. With this new influx of conservatives came a major jump in registered Republican voters in Florida.

Amid the GOP now controlling the Florida governor's mansion, the Florida state legislature, and having a voter registration lead, Democrats are deciding to cut their losses.

A major disappointment for Florida Democrats

Democrats are realizing that flipping Florida blue really just isn't in the cards. Chris Korge, the director of the Democratic National Committee Finance, admitted as much during an interview with Politico.

Korge acknowledged Democrats continue losing big time in Florida. He even went as far as claiming the state's "return on investment" is not as good for Democrats as other states.

In a true sign of panic, the official called for the Biden administration to increase its engagement levels in Florida now.

Korge said if the White House puts this off until the 2024 presidential election, "stopping" DeSantis will pose an even greater and more costly challenge.

This comes amid speculation and growing dialogues about DeSantis running for president in 2024.

Another bad sign for Democrats in Florida

This year, DeSantis has an ongoing re-election campaign for a second term as Florida's governor. Democrats Charlie Crist and Nikki Fried are running to stop DeSantis. Regardless, the numbers don't add up for them.

For one thing, DeSantis has amassed gubernatorial funds of over $100 million. This is more than Crist and Fried's war chests combined.

Secondly, in every single Florida poll, DeSantis dominates both Florida Democrats. There is not a single poll that has Crist or Fried ahead of DeSantis. However, Crist has chosen to use some of Fried's anti-DeSantis tweets on his own account.

All things considered, it's safe to say Florida is strong red territory. Democrats shouldn't count on any real victories there.
