In addition to the murder charge, Horner also faces three charges of sexual assault of a child that is unrelated to Athena’s case. The charges stem from incidents that occurred in 2013, but it is unclear whether they involve the same person or different victims.
Father filed lawsuit in 2022
Athena’s parents were divorced at the time of her death. And her father already filed suit against FedEx and Big Topspin in December 2022.
In response to both lawsuits, FedEx released a statement responding to both lawsuits. After expressing condolences to Athena’s family, the company acknowledged the pending litigation.
FedEx uses over 6,000 contractors across the United States to provide package pickup and delivery services. These contractors are subject to criminal history background checks, which are administered by a third party.
