On Wednesday, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders slammed the Republican Party as sexist and “bankrupt intellectually,” according to The Hill.

An Overview of Sanders’ Statements

The Vermont senator sat down for an interview with CBS on Wednesday. He first lauded House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and her work in politics.

“I think Nancy has done a good job,” he said.

Sanders then proceeded to criticize the Republican Party, alleging sexism within its ranks.

“Let me say what she may not say,” he continued. “I think it’s also the fact that she is a woman. I think they have demonized her. The Republican Party is bankrupt intellectually.”

The Vermont senator also slammed GOP policies.

“They are not going to campaign on their views of giving tax cuts to billionaires and cutting Social Security and Medicare and Medicaid,” Sanders said. “They have to come up with some demon, and I guess their demon now is Nancy Pelosi.”
