As for DeSantis, Trump began attacking him when it became clear the Florida governor might run in the 2024 presidential election. Since DeSantis’ entry into the race, Trump’s insisted the Florida governor lacks loyalty and only won his election because of Trump’s endorsement.
Despite the former president’s rhetoric, DeSantis secured reelection in 2022 (without Trump’s endorsement) by a much larger margin than his 2018 electoral win that followed Trump’s support.
