“Even if the court finds that the 2017 amendment diminishes judicial compensation, it would not violate Article V, Section 16(a) of the Pennsylvania Constitution because the changes apply generally to all salaried officers of the Commonwealth, not just judges,” Judge Wojcik emphasized.
As of now, counsel for the judges have not provided immediate comments, and representatives of the retirement board remain unavailable for comment.
The judges are represented by Kim M. Watterson and M. Patrick Yingling of Reed Smith LLP, while the retirement board and its members are represented by Kevin R. Bradford of the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office.
