Earlier today, President Trump made headlines by demonstrating compassion and empathy towards a young child in need. According to reports from Fox News, little Charlie Gard is an adorable British baby boy who is currently afflicted with severe brain damage. Charlie's parents have been battling the United Kingdom courts to allow their son to remain on life support, but hospital doctors have been given leeway to remove Charlie's assistance by as early as Friday. Upon learning of this, President Trump tweeted out the following: "If we can help little #CharlieGard, as per our friends in the U.K. and the Pope, we would be delighted to do so." Charlie Gard was born in August 2016 and currently has "infantile-onset encephalomyopathic mitochondrial DNA depletion syndrome," which causes deafness, epilespy, and troubles with brain functions, muscles, and breathing.  In light of these ailments, Charlie's parents expressed their desire to bring their son to the United States, in the hopes that experimental therapy will improve their son's health. So far, a grand total of £1.3 million has been raised to help get Charlie to America for the treatment. Sadly, United Kingdom judges ruled against this, leaving Charlie's parents in utter dispair. Charlie's mother Connie Yates, stated that the £1.3 million will be given to charity for mitochondrial depletion syndrome if the funds are unable to engender Charlie's treatment. Despite the President's statement, many people are wondering how the United States could help in a situation where the parents are disallowed from bringing their son to America for treatment that could save his life. "We have been in talks today with Great Ormond Street and they have agreed to give us a little bit more time with Charlie. We are really grateful for all the support from the public at this extremely difficult time. We're making precious memories that we can treasure forever with very heavy hearts. Please respect our privacy while we prepare to say the final goodbye to our son Charlie," Connie Yates recently told the Daily Mail. The situation regarding little Charlie Gard is quite tragic. His parents recently posted a video online and asserted that UK doctors were encouraging them to let go of their son, even before other friends and relatives had the opportunity to bid him goodbye. Despite the revocation of Charlie's life support, he is still not permitted to leave the ward where he is being held. Charlie's parents each expressed their desires to take their son home one last time.
