Extra Rewards for Exceptional Performance

In a bold and generous move, Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP has decided to express its appreciation to its U.S. associates and of counsel in a remarkable way. The firm, renowned for its unparalleled litigation expertise, is offering special fall bonuses, in addition to the traditional year-end bonuses, as a tribute to the remarkable financial performance witnessed in 2023.

Bonus Breakdown

The law firm’s management confirmed that these bonuses would be awarded based on the criterion of seniority and hours put into the job, demonstrating the firm’s commitment to acknowledging the tireless effort of its dedicated legal professionals. The bonus amounts range from $2,120 to $32,908.

A Tribute to Success

William A. Burck, the global co-managing partner of the firm, expressed his gratitude to the entire team for the continued success of the firm. In an internal email to all U.S. associates and of counsel, he highlighted their hard work, unwavering commitment, and sacrifices that contributed to the firm’s ongoing prosperity. The special bonuses are an expression of the firm’s gratitude toward those who have played an integral role in its continued accomplishments.

Timing and Details

The firm aims to distribute the special bonuses to the majority of eligible lawyers on the Oct. 31 payroll, with recent hires receiving a separate bonus designated for new hires. The firm’s bonus matrix considers various factors, including billable hour credit for non-billable time spent on collection and errors and omissions matters. Credit is also given for pro bono work, additional associate trial hours, and time invested in approved travel, pitches, and recruiting.

The Exceptional and the Nearly There

The firm’s commitment to rewarding its legal professionals shines through in its approach. Attorneys billing above 2,000 hours, who were nearing a bonus level cutoff, were elevated to the next level, ensuring their exceptional contributions are duly recognized. In cases where attorneys billed between 1,800 and 2,000 hours, the firm proportionally reduced bonus levels, maintaining a fair and motivating approach.

An Unwavering Commitment to Excellence

Quinn Emanuel’s dedication to its legal team extends beyond financial recognition. Earlier this year, the firm announced that it would match the new associate pay scale set by Cravath Swaine & Moore LLP, setting the bar higher than the industry standards, particularly for midlevel and senior associates.

Expanding Horizons

While rewarding its legal talents, Quinn Emanuel is also actively expanding its international operations. The announcement of opening an office in Singapore and the establishment of offices in Beijing, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi this year reflect the firm’s commitment to global growth.
