Earlier this year, fans of hit series Reacher learned the show's third season is officially in production.

Starring actor Alan Ritchson and based on the books by author Lee Childs, Reacher focuses on military veteran and lone wolf Jack Reacher who travels across the United States fighting crime and corruption.

A recap of Reacher

During the first season, Reacher ended up in Margrave, Georgia, originally to ascertain the whereabouts of his brother, Joe. Later, the titular character went on to work with supporting characters Finlay and Roscoe to uncover systemic corruption in Margrave's government.

Season two of Reacher featured a two-year time jump. This time, Reacher reunited with former flame Karla Dixon and their military pals, traveling across multiple states to take down villain Langston and his crew.

Once the third season arrives, viewers can look forward to their favorite protagonist heading to Maine and working with the DEA to combat drug crime.

However, the Reacher universe is expanding far beyond the show's upcoming episodes. A new spinoff series will feature none other than Frances Neagley, Reacher's best friend who also served with him in the military.

What to know about the upcoming "Neagley" spinoff

Reacher fans grew to love Neagley in seasons one and two. She proved essential in helping him access critical information and take down the bad guys when it counted most.

Portrayed by Maria Sten, Neagley is a no-nonsense straight shooter who can take care of business. As such, the spinoff will feature her working to avenge a friend who died under mysterious circumstances. Central to this work, of course, will be everything she's learned from her work and friendship with Reacher himself.

So far, it remains to be seen if Alan Ritchson makes a cameo in the Neagley show. Nevertheless, this confirmed spinoff marks tangible growth of the Reacher universe that fans have heartily embraced.

Sten herself also speaks highly of Neagley, expressing excitement about the fleshing out of this character. So far, a release date for the spinoff has yet to be announced. Though fans will see Neagley return for season three of Reacher next year.
