As the three remaining candidates duke it out in the 2020 presidential election, there is a greater spotlight being placed on prospective running mates. Thus far, Joe Biden and Tulsi Gabbard have not provided much insight on who they may pick as a running mate, in the event of winning the nomination.

However, the story is a little different for Bernie Sanders. Earlier today, the Democratic-socialist claimed that he'll first look at women as prospective running mates if he wins the nomination.

Sanders' remarks come as he, Biden, and Gabbard continue competing to ascend to nominee status; thus far, the DNC has thrown their support behind the former vice president with multiple endorsements from his former rivals.

The Democrat establishment is also taking some heat for their moves to block Gabbard from attending the upcoming debate.

Sanders on the Prospect of a Female Running Mate

The 2020 Democrat spent time at a Michigan town hall on Monday. During this time, Sanders conversed with Fox News hosts and communicated with the audience of attendees.

When talking about the prospect of a female running mate, Sanders explained that women would receive his attention as a potential vice president; however, the Democratic-socialist added the caveat of the female prospects sharing his political views.

One of Sanders' most outspoken female supporters is House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. However, the congresswoman does not yet meet the age requirement to join the ticket as Sanders' running mate. Nevertheless, the Democratic-socialist candidate has indicated that Ocasio-Cortez will have a place in his administration if he wins the presidency.

Sanders' statements at today's town hall came as Joe Biden also campaigned in the state. Former presidential candidates Kamala Harris and Cory Booker joined the former vice president after their recent endorsements of his campaign.

Will Sanders Win the Nomination?

At this time, the odds of Bernie Sanders winning the Democrat nomination appear quite slim. The DNC doesn't seem on board with the prospect of Sanders as the party's nominee, hence the multiple endorsements to Biden's campaign.

As Sanders talks about the prospect of selecting a female running mate, he remains silent about the treatment of Tulsi Gabbard, the last remaining female presidential candidate. By contrast, Gabbard has previously come to Sanders' defense on multiple occasions when she believed the DNC treated him unfairly.
