A disturbing escalation unfolded in San Francisco’s upscale Russian Hill neighborhood early Sunday, when what police say was a drive-by shooting attempt targeted the home of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman—just two days after an alleged firebombing at the same property. Authorities say two suspects have now been arrested as fear and tension intensify around a series of attacks on the high-profile tech leader’s residence.

SECOND STRIKE AT THE SAME HOME
The latest incident happened Sunday at 1:40 a.m., when a Honda sedan carrying two people slowed in front of Altman’s property, which spans from Chestnut Street to Lombard Street in San Francisco’s Russian Hill area.

According to police, the vehicle had already passed the residence minutes earlier before turning back and stopping.

Investigators say the passenger then extended an arm out of the window and appeared to fire a round toward the Lombard Street side of the property, based on surveillance footage and statements from security personnel who reported hearing a gunshot.

POLICE MOVE QUICKLY AS SUSPECTS IDENTIFIED
The San Francisco Police Department San Francisco Police Department later announced the arrest of two suspects: 25-year-old Amanda Tom and 23-year-old Muhamad Tarik Hussein, both booked for negligent discharge.

The vehicle fled the scene, but security cameras captured its license plate. Police were later able to locate and take possession of the car, according to investigators.

Officers responded to the 2000 block of Taylor Street and detained Tom and Hussein without incident. A search of the residence uncovered three firearms, according to police.

Neither OpenAI nor the San Francisco Police Department responded to requests for additional comment.

FEAR SURROUNDING ALTMAN’S HOME INTENSIFIES
The alleged shooting attempt comes amid heightened concern following an earlier violent incident at the same residence.

Altman himself addressed the broader atmosphere of anxiety following Friday’s attack, writing:

“The fear and anxiety about AI is justified. We are in the process of witnessing the largest change to society in a long time, and perhaps ever.”

The statement has taken on new weight as law enforcement investigates whether the two incidents are connected or part of a broader pattern of targeting.

FIRST ATTACK: MOLOTOV COCKTAIL THROWN DAYS EARLIER
The first incident occurred Friday morning, when a 20-year-old Texas man, identified as Daniel Alejandro Moreno-Gama, allegedly targeted the property from the north side along Chestnut Street.

At around 3:40 a.m., Moreno-Gama allegedly threw a bottle containing a flaming rag at the metal gate of the property on Chestnut Street, according to police reports.

Security guards quickly extinguished the fire, and surveillance cameras captured the incident. The suspect’s image was later circulated, though authorities have not confirmed full identification details.

Shortly after, security personnel at OpenAI’s headquarters in Mission Bay reportedly encountered a person matching the suspect’s description. The individual allegedly made threatening statements about the building before being taken into custody.

ONGOING INVESTIGATION, NO INJURIES REPORTED
Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported in either of the two incidents.

With two attacks in less than 48 hours, investigators are now examining possible connections, while residents in the area remain on edge as police continue their investigation into what may be a coordinated escalation targeting one of the world’s most influential tech executives.
