In a move that reshapes the future of one of America’s most recognizable family dining chains, 4x4 Capital acquired Bob Evans from Golden Gate Capital, signaling a new era for the farm-inspired restaurant brand.

The acquisition, announced Thursday, underscores what 4x4 described as the enduring strength and long-term growth potential of Bob Evans Restaurants — a name rooted in Americana and stitched into the fabric of family dining for generations.

From Farmhouse Roots to National Footprint

Bob Evans Restaurants was born on a farm in Rio Grande, Ohio, in 1948. What began as a humble Farmhouse Kitchen grew into a family-style restaurant chain celebrated for farm-fresh ingredients, hearty meals and welcoming hospitality.

Today, the all-American dining brand operates more than 400 locations across 18 states and employs over 15,000 people nationwide. Its identity remains grounded in community engagement, agricultural heritage and neighborhood initiatives — principles that have guided the company for more than seven decades.

The company continues to serve signature dishes ranging from its classic Farmer’s Choice Breakfast to slow-roasted, hand-carved turkey dinners, maintaining a focus on fresh ingredients and preparation across nearly 420 locations.

Leadership Continuity and Strategic Partnership

Chief Executive Officer Mickey Mills and her leadership team will remain at the helm, continuing to guide the company as they have for the past 78 years of brand history.

As part of the transition, 4x4 Co-Founder and Partner Gustavo Assumpção will assume the role of Executive Board Chair.

4x4 Capital, a New York-based investment firm founded in 2018, focuses on middle market companies in consumer goods, consumer services and related sectors across North America. The firm employs what it calls an active ownership model — pairing operational expertise with a systematic value-creation strategy designed to accelerate growth and enhance long-term performance.

The firm has built a track record of investing in and scaling food and beverage businesses, applying a hands-on partnership approach with management teams.
