On Thursday night Elton John and Britney Spears released a duet of “Hold Me Closer.” Which is a reimagining of Elton’s 1970s classic “Tiny Dancer” mashed with his 1992 album “The One” with some of “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” weaved in.

Britney Spears, 40, spent years trying to break free of what she testified was an “abusive’ 13- and 1/2-year conservatorship. Her collaborator is 75-year-old British superstar Elton John the Rocket Man rocker.

 The new song is on track to be even more of a hit than Elton’s 2021 “Cold Heart” collaboration with Dua Lipa. It blended “Rocket Man” and “Sacrifice” into a great sound. It put Elton back in the top 10 of Billboard’s Hot 100 for the first time in over 20 years.

It was an Andrew Watt production. Grammy-winning Watt is known for inspired pairings. And he was behind Ozzy Osbourne and with Post Malone’s “Take What You Want” combo. He also produced the Elton and Dua Lipa duo.

 Remixing himself has long been one of Sir Elton’s specialties. And he refuses to age with his latest tour where he’s booked to play Dodger Stadium in a reprise of his 1975 efforts. 

Hold me Closer opens at No. 1

According to one of Britney’s besties, talk show host Drew Barrymore 24 hrs. after its release the song is No. 1 in 33 countries.

Barrymore and a select few were guests at Britney's wedding to Sam Asghari. 

“Hold Me Closer” is The Queen of Pop’s first music since she released the album Glory in 2016. And the inspired collaboration marks Britney’s official return to music. She was admittedly nervous about getting back behind the microphone.

“She’s been away so long — there’s a lot of fear there because she’s been betrayed so many times and she hasn’t been in the public eye officially for so long,” Elton John said in an interview with the Guardian.

 “We’ve been holding her hand through the whole process, reassuring her that everything’s gonna be alright.”

Another of Britney’s close friends, and recent wedding guest Paris Hilton was also impressed with the song. She posted a TikTok video of her dressed from head-to-toe in pink dancing around her pink Bentley. And singing Hold me closer.

  “Hold Me Closer” has an undeniable vibe. It features three and a half minutes of electro-pop sung by the King of the ’70s and the Princess of the ’90s.’ It is a sweet pairing of two unique voices. And it feels like freedom!
