Anthropic, a leading player in the generative AI industry, is reportedly in early talks to raise up to $5 billion in fresh capital—a move that could double its valuation from $61.5 billion to over $150 billion. 

This development positions Anthropic in the same league as top-tier rivals like OpenAI, Elon Musk’s xAI, and Big Tech firms such as Google and Meta.

Middle East Investment in Anthropic Could Boost Valuation

According to the Financial Times, Anthropic has attracted early interest from major Middle Eastern investors, including MGX, Abu Dhabi’s AI-focused investment fund. Two sources said preliminary discussions have taken place, marking a potential strategic pivot.

The company has previously avoided sovereign wealth funds linked to authoritarian regimes, citing ethical concerns.

In a leaked internal memo first reported by Wired, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei expressed reservations about partnering with certain foreign entities:

“Unfortunately, I think ‘no bad person should ever benefit from our success’ is a pretty difficult principle to run a business on,” Amodei wrote.

Despite this, the need for capital to compete with deep-pocketed rivals may be shifting the company’s stance.

Claude, Coding, and Enterprise Momentum

Anthropic’s flagship chatbot, Claude, is gaining traction in enterprise environments, particularly for tasks involving code generation. Its dominance in AI coding has sparked widespread concern across Silicon Valley, igniting what insiders are calling a “code red” moment.

With backing from Amazon (which has pledged up to $8 billion) and Google, the company’s annualized recurring revenue has skyrocketed from $1 billion at the beginning of 2025 to over $4 billion—roughly 80% of which comes from enterprise clients.

The High-Stakes AI Arms Race

Anthropic’s momentum comes at a time when OpenAI is preparing to release GPT-5, and SoftBank is helping raise tens of billions for further development.

MGX is reportedly tied to both OpenAI and Anthropic, including their co-investment in the Stargate data center project.

“There's a lot at stake here,” noted one source. “Elon Musk wants to know. Mark Zuckerberg’s mad dash for AI talent and infrastructure is partly driven by the same quest to understand Anthropic’s coding lead.”
