In the wake of the Tax Cuts and Job Act's success comes the importance of halting a potential government shutdown. Fox News reports that House Republicans are working hard to ensure the continued full functionality of the government.

Avoiding the Shutdown of the Government

GOP House members presented a brand new spending bill earlier today in the hopes of preserving the complete performance of the government. Upon the success of the aforesaid spending bill, the government will continue functioning through January 19, 2018. Furthermore, it will allow Congressional Republicans and Democrats to spend the holidays with their families.

Disputes pertaining to immigration, national budget, and healthcare disagreements would also be addressed in January. However, if the spending bill does not attract the required votes, a government shutdown shall follow on Friday at 12:00AM.

The effort to halt a government shutdown appears to be completely partisan. Democrats are not offering supporting votes to pass House Republicans' spending bill. From their point of view, the GOP is not doing enough to shield minor illegal aliens from deportation. Democrats have furthermore pushed for the full instatement of DACA much to the irritation of Republicans.

Others have also attributed Democrats' seemingly nonchalant attitude regarding a government shutdown to the approval of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. Earlier today, President Trump suggested this in a tweet:

What Does America Think of the Potential Government Shutdown?

The looming possibility of a government shutdown has engendered criticism of Democrats and Congress as a whole. Many Americans have slammed lawmakers for their inability to work together. However, others have suggested that Democrats' refusal to support the spending bill evidences their greater regard for illegal immigrants over American citizens.

The aforesaid viewpoints (and more) are heavily apparent in the comments section of Fox News' report:

"Trump plan ===> great for America[.] Dem plan ====> great for illegals[.]"

"You know, when your operating motto every day is "Resist, resist, resist, obstruct, and RUSSIA" you have to ask, what's the point of trying to include you?"

"85% of citizens will benefit from the tax plan[.]"

"Is this a cut or a raise to your pay ?You’re making $30.00 an hour and your boss says on Jan. 1, you’re going up to $40.00 Whoo Hoo However, circumstances intervened and your boss said it’s only going to be $35.00 an hour come the 1st. Democrats think this is a cut in pay[.] Republicans know it’s a raise."
