“Netflix is growing revenues double-digits, expanding margins in 2026 and gushing free cash flow,” said LightShed Partners media analyst Richard Greenfield. “While the Q1 was uneventful financially, the departure of Reed Hastings has spooked investors.”

Hastings has long been credited with transforming how audiences consume movies and television, accelerating the shift away from cable and into streaming-first entertainment.

The company’s earnings per share rose to $1.23 in the first quarter, up from 66 cents in the same period last year. Revenue climbed to $12.25 billion, a 16 percent increase year over year and slightly above analyst expectations of $12.18 billion.

The company also did not disclose how it plans to use the $2.8 billion termination fee received after the failed Warner Bros movie studio and HBO acquisition effort, leaving investors watching closely for future capital strategy signals.

Advertising is emerging as a major growth engine, with Netflix projecting ad revenue could reach $3 billion by 2026, doubling from current levels.
