Originally released on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, it was the "lost" numbered entry that never was. It had the gothic atmosphere, the Redfield sibling drama, and a level of camp that could only be achieved at the turn of the millennium.

But let’s be honest: the original game is a bit of a relic. The fixed camera angles and tank controls, while charming in a "my-parents-found-this-in-the-attic" sort of way, haven't aged with the grace of the series' more recent outings.

We don’t want a cinematic reboot that forgets what made the game great in the first place.

2027 feels like an eternity away, especially after that electrifying reveal trailer at Summer Game Fest. But if there is one thing we have learned from Capcom’s trajectory over the last several years, it is that they are playing the long game. They are meticulous. They are listening.

Seeing Claire Redfield—modeled with the kind of fidelity that makes her look like a real person rather than a polygon doll—walking through a chillingly detailed environment gives me goosebumps.
