Avi Loeb’s Most Recent ‘Alien Relic’ Essay Raises Questions About UAP-Orb Evidence and Examination of Civilian Footage

In “The Search for Extraterrestrial Life and Death,” Avi Loeb’s latest essay published to his Medium account, Loeb argues that technological artifacts could outlive their creators. He compares that possibility to Mozart’s music surviving the composer, suggesting that abandoned spacecraft might remain detectable long after a civilization’s radio transmissions have passed.

The distinction is central to his argument. A search for surviving technology could, in principle, reveal an outer space civilization from a distant earth-like planet that no longer exists.

To expand on his theory, Loeb opens with a joke citing what he calls “a popular tale” about a “Jewish mother” saying Jewish mothers are known for inciting a sense of guilt in their children.”

Comparing her child’s accomplishments with Mozart’s.

According to Loeb, the tale allegedly holds that after a Jewish mother was disappointed by the career accomplishments of her 36-year-old child, she complained that: “By your age, Mozart did not only compose over 50 symphonies, but he even managed to die!” Avi Loeb, Medium Post

His assertion that similar circumstances produce similar outcomes also leaves unanswered questions. Even if another planet resembles Earth, that resemblance alone does not demonstrate the emergence of intelligence, interstellar travel or probes reaching our atmosphere.

But it could justify continued funding for telescopes to search the vast darkness of space indefinitely, rather than prioritizing rigorous analysis of UAP/orb footage already captured here on Earth by private citizens and by obtaining the necessary government records needed to truly investigate the evidence on these encounters.

Loeb’s essay connects his hypothesis to 3I/ATLAS. Though NASA has continuously identified that object as an interstellar comet; and that its arrival from another star system did not itself establish artificial origin. NASA’s 3I/ATLAS overview.

“Dandelion flowers spread their genetic code in seeds that reproduce them when they land on fertile grounds after being carried by the wind. If nature manages to do it, surely synthetic biology or pure technology can manufacture such behavior by design. The carriers of these seeds could be interstellar objects that enter planetary systems nearly aligned with the orbital plane of the planets, as 3I/ATLAS did.” Avi Loeb, Medium

Loeb’s advisory role on Trump’s UAP Council was reported by The Harvard Crimson on July 11 that an Office of the Director of National Intelligence representative approached Loeb and that the White House allowed him to select council members. At that time, Loeb told the newspaper he had never interacted with Trump. Loeb also reported that the council was unpaid and had no budget. The Harvard Crimson’s council investigation.

Meanwhile, the government’s Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters, or PURSUE, confirms five releases, beginning May 8 and reaching a fifth tranche on August 7. Its explanation says unresolved cases can remain unidentified because sufficient data are unavailable. The official PURSUE archive.

Civilian footage raises a related issue. A witness’s original recording could offer a useful lead for scientist, or even verifiable evidence about its source or nature of its composition. NASA says the shortage of high-quality UAP observations limits scientific conclusions. That supports careful evaluation; it does not establish a blanket reason to disregard every privately recorded sighting. NASA’s UAP explanations.

Loeb’s essay concludes that scientific evidence will settle the question. The unresolved issue is how the available records, pending requests and future measurements will translate into findings that others can independently examine.

The idea that ancient civilizations traveled to Earth from distant planets offers an exotic possibility. Identifying a particular object, however, requires evidence specific to that object. Recent reports of luminous orbs hovering at low altitudes over residential neighborhoods suggest there may be valuable opportunities to investigate the phenomenon much closer to home.
