Fort Lauderdale - Jack Doherty, the 22-year-old influencer known for stunts and livestreams, faces a misdemeanor domestic battery charge after an alleged confrontation with his girlfriend in Fort Lauderdale. He was arrested September 4 and pleaded not guilty on September 8^th. Doherty is presumed innocent, and the charge has not been proven.

According to a police report described by WPLG Local 10, the dispute began at a Riverside Park home. Police said Doherty approached his girlfriend aggressively; she extended an arm to create distance, which apparently resulted in her leaving scratches on his face and collarbone. Officers reportedly said surveillance footage corroborated that initial sequence.

Police reportedly claimed that Doherty “moved quickly towards her and got in her face.”

She told officers the argument continued upstairs, where Doherty allegedly “pushed her to the ground and used his hands around her neck to briefly pin her to the ground.” Police said she remained able to breathe. She then reportedly retrieved a bedside gun, held it at her side and threatened to shoot if he approached.

Under Florida Statutes § 784.03, battery requires an intentional touching or striking against another person’s will or intentionally causing bodily harm. The unwanted-contact alternative does not require a visible injury.

That distinction corrects a common misunderstanding: moving quickly toward someone and getting in their face does not, by itself, establish battery. The alleged push and neck contact could satisfy the contact element if proven to have been intentional and against her will, subject to any legally supported defense.

Doherty’s girlfriend is the “complaining witness”—the person whose account describes the alleged offense. That does not make her account automatically true or automatically insufficient. Prosecutors must establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt through admissible evidence. Her testimony, recordings, surveillance footage, physical evidence and the surrounding circumstances would need to be evaluated together.

When neck contact could support a felony

Florida separately criminalizes domestic battery by strangulation as a third-degree felony. Under § 784.041, prosecutors must establish knowing and intentional interference with normal breathing or blood circulation, against the person’s will, through pressure on the neck or throat or obstruction of the nose or mouth. The conduct must create a risk of, or cause, great bodily harm. The law covers qualifying dating relationships.

Hands around the neck alone do not establish every element. The reported ability to breathe is relevant, but the statute also addresses impaired blood circulation. Medical findings, a more detailed account or recordings could affect that assessment. Additional evidence meeting the statutory requirements could support a felony charge.

The safety concern remains substantial. The National Domestic Violence Hotline identifies strangulation as a potentially lethal form of abuse and a predictor of future lethal violence. Serious internal injuries can occur without obvious external marks. That general warning -warrants attention.

The gun and the no-contact order

A judge set bond at $1,000 and ordered Doherty to have no contact with his girlfriend, Local 10 reported. The reported restriction is a criminal release condition, not a finding of guilt.

The firearm introduces an obvious possibility of fatal injury during the incident. But neither its presence, nor the police report narrative, establishes who owned it, whether both people controlled it, or whether her reported threat was unlawful.

Florida’s self-defense statute permits threatened deadly force when a person reasonably believes it necessary to prevent imminent death, great bodily harm or an imminent forcible felony. Whether that standard applies depends on the complete sequence and circumstances. Her account describes a defensive purpose; investigators and any court considering the issue must assess the supporting evidence. It would be premature to characterize both people as equally responsible for the confrontation.

The earlier drug case

Doherty was also arrested November 15, 2025, on charges involving amphetamine possession (Meth), possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis, and resisting arrest. He entered felony drug pretrial diversion in January, according to PEOPLE’s account of court records in that case.

That history does not establish intoxication during the September 4^th incident, but any continuing illicit drug use could complicate his situation. The actual impact on diversion hinges on the specific terms of the agreement, which are not currently public.
