Few places are as tightly sealed as a federal prison, which makes it all the more striking when news of a crisis slips through the gates. Sean “Diddy” Combs faced a health scare over the weekend, according to reports, in what is being described as a medical emergency.

What Reports Say Happened

The disgraced music mogul, currently serving a 50-month federal sentence at FCI Fort Dix in New Jersey, was rushed to a hospital Saturday morning, Oct. 10, according to TMZ. Per the outlet, the 56-year-old rapper was hospitalized to receive treatment for a head injury.

Silence From Camp Combs and the Prison

In a statement to USA TODAY on Monday, Oct. 12, Combs’ spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said, “we are aware of the reports concerning Sean Combs,” but declined to share further details about his condition. He added that the team is “working to confirm the circumstances.”

“Sean’s health and well-being are our immediate concern, and we appreciate everyone who has reached out,” Engelmayer concluded.

FCI Fort Dix declined to comment, citing “privacy, safety and security reasons.”

A Rocky Few Months

The scare follows a turbulent stretch for the Bad Boy Records founder, who was found guilty of two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in July 2025 after a bombshell trial that pulled back the curtain on his media empire. In July, the “I’ll Be Missing You” emcee was reportedly placed in solitary confinement after an altercation with a fellow inmate.

Scrutiny Over Life Behind Bars

Combs’ conduct in prison has also drawn attention. NBC News published a report Sept. 29, citing photos, videos and interviews with several inmates, alleging that Combs uses contraband electronics and alcohol procured for him. The outlet also reported that he pays fellow inmates to cook, clean and do his laundry.

A Release Date That Keeps Moving

Combs’ initial release date was May 8, 2028, but it has shifted multiple times since his incarceration, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate records viewed by USA TODAY. It is currently set for March 2, 2028, a two-month delay from the previously adjusted date of Jan. 21, 2028.

Legal Battles Still Pending

Combs’ legal team is still attempting to appeal his conviction. The rapper, who has denied all allegations of sexual misconduct, also faces upwards of 70 civil lawsuits across the country.

For now, the details of Saturday’s emergency remain thin, and the public is left waiting for confirmation of what happened inside Fort Dix and how Combs is recovering.
