The legal storm surrounding Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin intensified Friday, as a judge ruled that he will stand trial in a civil case tied to the fatal shooting on the set of the film Rust. Judge clears path for October trial

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Maurice Leiter ruled that Baldwin must face a civil trial scheduled for October, rejecting efforts by the defense to halt the case before it reached a courtroom.

The lawsuit was filed by Serge Svetnoy, a gaffer who worked on the New Mexico set and witnessed the aftermath of the shooting. Svetnoy alleges he suffered severe emotional distress, claiming negligence by both Baldwin and Rust Movie Productions.

The judge’s summary judgment ruling allows the claims to proceed, ensuring that key questions about responsibility and safety will be examined in full.
