Alisa Goods Case Ends in Heartbreak as Missing Grandmother’s Body Is Found

A search that began with a simple bus trip to CVS has ended in the outcome her family feared most. The body of Alisa Goods, a 63-year-old New York grandmother who vanished while visiting Las Vegas earlier this month, has been located, her sister confirmed to CBS News New York.

How the Disappearance Began

Goods went missing on Aug. 8 after leaving a friend's apartment to catch a bus to a nearby CVS. She never returned, and after two days without contact, her family reported her missing on Aug. 10 — a gap that quickly transformed ordinary worry into genuine alarm.

Strange Messages Deepen the Mystery

The situation took an unsettling turn two days after that report, when Goods' family began receiving messages from her phone requesting bitcoin, help, and gas money — communications that raised more questions than they answered and left relatives grasping for any clue about what had actually happened to her.

A Family's Worst Fear Confirmed

Goods' sister told CBS News New York on Friday that her body had been found, and that the family would be flying out to Las Vegas to handle the aftermath. She offered few additional details, saying only that she had "no words" to describe the moment.

A Tribute to a Life Deeply Loved

In a statement posted to a GoFundMe page set up on Goods' behalf, her family described her as "deeply loved," writing: "Her absence leaves a space in our family that can never be filled. We are doing our best to navigate this loss together and to celebrate the life she lived, the people she loved and the memories she left with us." CBS News has reached out to both the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Clark County coroner for further information on the circumstances surrounding her death.

A Familiar City, an Unfamiliar Ending

According to her family, Goods had visited Las Vegas before, and taking a bus to get around wasn't unusual behavior for her. But this particular trip carried added risk. Her daughter, Kristen Goods, told CBS News that her mother had recently undergone several surgeries that made walking considerably harder on this visit. "From what I understand with the temperatures there, it's extremely hot, so it's hot and she can't walk," Kristen Goods said, painting a picture of a woman potentially struggling physically in punishing desert heat.

The Detail That Triggered Suspicion

Alana Calloway, Goods' niece, previously told CBS News that the request for gas money was the detail that set off alarm bells within the family — since her aunt doesn't even drive. That single inconsistency, she said, was what pushed the family to consider a darker possibility: that Goods may have been kidnapped.

A Search That Turned Up Nothing — Until Now

In the days following her disappearance, Goods' family said they contacted local hospitals, jails and the coroner's office in hopes of finding some trace of her, but those efforts initially came up empty. Kristen Goods told CBS News earlier this week that she had traveled to Las Vegas herself, hoping to uncover answers the investigation hadn't yet provided.

"I am hoping to God for the best, but my heart can't take what it could be, which is the worst," Kristen Goods said at the time — words that now carry a heavier weight, following the confirmation of her mother's death.
