Texas Senate Bill 4

Governor Greg Abbott has championed stricter immigration measures.

Texas Senate Bill 4 is the state’s response to the border crisis. This law makes entering Texas illegally a state crime. It empowers state judges to order that migrants who violate the law deported.

Texas law also allows more construction of the border wall, installation of buoy barriers in the riverways that border Mexico. And putting up razor wire along the border.

The Supreme Court voted two weeks ago to allow Texas Senate Bill 4 to be implemented.

Hours after the U.S. Supreme Court gave the green light, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals put the state bill back on hold pending Texas’ appeal of a federal judge’s ruling last month that blocked the measure.
