According to King, He told Parker that the “most appropriate course of action for him was to resign” because his “choice of words and statements offended people.”
On Wednesday, Parker submitted his resignation letter to DNC Chair Tom Perez, FDP Chair Rizzo, and DCDEC Chair King.
In his resignation letter, Parker acknowledged his mistakes and apologized. He also stated that he was “misunderstood” and his misstatement “give the impression I am something that I am not.”
Additionally, Parker wrote, “I misspoke and used language that was hurtful. I apologized and pledged that I would learn from my mistake. I understand that my error perpetuates divisiveness…”
Furthermore, he expressed confidence that “a full investigation would have shown that I erred with my mouth, not my heart. I am not what some are portraying me to be.”
In a statement, King said she accepted Parker’s resignation. She emphasized that it is the right thing for the Democratic Party.
“I firmly believe in servant leadership, and as Chair, I must serve all our members…even when it is at odds with those that are closest to me. All our members deserve a party that prioritizes diversity and respect…”
