“I wish I could talk to someone who’s been in my shoes, you know, a Black, South Asian woman running for President. Preferably from the Bay Area.”

Harris then emerged with the response, “You and me both, sista.”

There were other comedic exchanges between the Kamala Harrises. The vice president questioned Rudolph’s impression, asking if she really laughed the way the actress portrayed. Rudolph then responded,  “A little bit.”

Harris Taps Into Pop-Culture

As stated earlier, Harris’ appearance in the sketch was a surprise, however, it was on-brand for the politician. Her campaign has been notably marked by high-profile pop culture influences such as Beyonce and Eminem. Her Charlotte rally featured performances from musicians Bon Jovi and Khalid. Meanwhile, her Atlanta rally included special guests like filmmaker Spike Lee and singer Victoria Monét.

With election day nearer than ever, Harris’ campaign efforts are still going strong. Given its immense cultural reach, the democrat candidate no doubt aimed to leverage the comedy show to reach and sway voters. This will be the last SNL episode before election day making Harris’ appearance a very strategic move.
