New Jersey detectives investigating the murder of a woman, Gabriella Caroleo, have uncovered chilling evidence of a second murder linked to the same suspect. Authorities found the dismembered remains of a man, identified as Kerry Rollason, in bags, revealing that a killer on the run had struck again while on the run.

Four individuals have been accused of harboring Maxwell Johnston, the primary suspect in the murder of his girlfriend, Gabriella Caroleo, 25. 

 Johnston allegedly concealed another killing during his time on the run, with police discovering body parts from a dismembered corpse on the property where he was hiding. 

Accused of aiding Johnston are Elizabeth Mascarelli, 29, Danielle Bolstad, 42, Jared Krysiak, 34, and Jarred Palumbo, 36. They face charges of hindering apprehension and desecration of human remains.

Killer on the Run

The case began on June 27, when Maxwell Johnston, 35, allegedly shot Gabriella Caroleo, 25, in Manchester Township. Caroleo was found with a gunshot wound to her stomach and was airlifted to a hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

 Her family revealed to local news station WACP that she had expressed fear for her safety just hours before the shooting. During the investigation, it was reported that Johnston taunted Caroleo’s family. He left disturbing messages during her funeral. And sporadically taunted them during the week he was on the run.

Authorities tracked Johnston to a home in Toms River on July 5. 

Bolstad, Krysiak, and Palumbo surrendered to the police.  Johnston and Mascarelli barricaded themselves inside. 

The Standoff

After several hours of failed negotiations, a standoff ensued. Mascarelli eventually exited the home and was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the standoff. Johnston was later found dead in the bedroom from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mascarelli was also a girlfriend of Johnston. The duo reportedly published their final intimate moments together on Instagram before his suicide.

Mascarelli was later seen being taken away by ambulance, with injuries she recived after a police teargas canister struck her in the head.

The pair engaged in a sexual act and posted the video and photos to Instagram under the account "Glizzygrimm". 

That account belongs to Elizabeth Mascarelli, who has a a history of arrests for possession, manufacturing, and the distribution of drugs.

Another Body Discovered

The Ocean County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the second victim as Kerry Rollason, 56, the owner of the Toms River home where Johnston had been hiding. 

Rollason died from multiple gunshot wounds and blunt force trauma. Authorities believe Johnston killed Rollason while he was evading capture for Caroleo’s murder. Evidence found at a secondary location in Jackson, about 15 miles away, confirmed Rollason’s murder, with body parts discovered inside black bags.

A defaced firearm found at the Toms River home was linked to Mascarelli.

 Prosecutors allege that Mascarelli, Bolstad, and Krysiak assisted Johnston in dismembering Rollason's body, and with Palumbo's help, they disposed of the remains.
