A haunting discovery in a quiet stretch of woodland has left investigators searching for answers after Memphis children's remains were found, believed to have lain hidden for years—like echoes of a story no one reported.

Grim Discovery Unfolds Over Weeks

Authorities in Memphis said the remains of three young children were uncovered in a wooded area in the Hickory Hill neighborhood, southeast of the city. Investigators believe the children were between three and seven years old and that their remains may have been there “for several years.”

“This is heartbreaking, it is disturbing,” said Cerelyn CJ Davis during a news conference. She added that officials are deploying extensive resources to identify the victims and bring long-awaited closure to a case cloaked in silence.

From Anonymous Tip to Disturbing Find

The investigation began on March 8, when an anonymous caller reported what appeared to be a human skull near a wooded area. What followed was a methodical search that slowly peeled back layers of a grim mystery.

During a follow-up sweep, search dogs alerted authorities to a nearby drainage pipe—an unassuming structure that soon became the center of the investigation. According to NBC News, cameras later inserted into the drainage system revealed what appeared to be another skull.

By early April, further searches uncovered 14 additional bones consistent with human remains, deepening the gravity of the case.

Investigation Intensifies Amid Lingering Questions

Police now believe the remains belong to three children, though their identities—and the circumstances surrounding their deaths—remain unknown.

“Somebody knows where these children have come from,” Davis said. “Someone knows of missing children that we have discovered in this area.”

Despite reviewing recent missing persons reports, investigators have found no matches, suggesting the children may not have been reported missing locally—or at all.

“We know these individuals were not reported out of our area,” Davis added, underscoring the troubling possibility that their disappearance went unnoticed in the community.

As the investigation continues, authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward, hoping to piece together a puzzle that has remained buried for years.
