In 2003, construction workers unearthed the skeletal remains of the murdered girl. She was strangled and her body was discovered beneath the former site of Steve Paul’s The Scene, a renowned rock-and-roll venue in Hell’s Kitchen. She died in 1969 the year that The Doors and Jimi Hendrix graced the stage.
The only clues to her identity were a gold signet ring bearing her initials, a dime from the year of her death, and a solitary green plastic toy soldier.
It took 21 years to confirm the identity of “Midtown Jane Doe.”
In 2017, with advancements in forensic technology, New York City detectives reopened the case. DNA analysis and combined with investigative genetic genealogy techniques were used. McGlone’s genetic profile was reconstructed, eventually leading investigators to a maternal cousin who had submitted DNA following the tragic events of 9/11.
Detective Ryan Glas has dedicated himself to finding justice for the murdered girl.
Potential suspects including McGlone’s husband had connections to the crime scene.
