Lu Kang is a foreign ministry spokesman for China. He stated that the comments Mnuchin made show that both sides are trying to avoid a potential trade war. However, he said that due to the increased interaction between the world’s two most powerful economies, China is not able to assure the U.S. that more disputes or frictions are not going to happen.

The American economy runs on capitalism and supply and demand. Should we take “trade deficits” into account at all? Or should we allow the public and privately owned businesses to buy the products they want from whoever they want?
