President Donald Trump will face possible “jail time” after his presidency, according to U.S. Representative Adam Schiff (D-California) during an interview with CBS’ Face the Nation on Sunday.

Schiff said, “My takeaway is there’s a very real prospect that on the day Donald Trump leaves office, the Justice Department may indict him — that he may be the first president in quite some time to face the real prospect of jail time.”

He made the statement in response to the question related to a court filing by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York on Friday. The filing recommended “substantial” jail time for Michael Cohen, Trump’s former personal attorney and fixer. The filing indicated that Cohen admitted that Trump (referred to as Individual-1) directed him to make illegal payments to two women during the 2016 presidential election. The women claimed they had affairs with Trump.
