Project Star Gate: Inside the World of CIA Psychic Warriors

Stargate CIA

In 1972, the Central Intelligence Agency initiated a secret program called Project Star Gate.  The USA’s top spies spent over 20 years working with the world’s top psychics.

The CIA recruited men and women claiming to have psychic abilities and the power of extrasensory perception (ESP) to help uncover military and domestic intelligence secrets.

In the covert realm of intelligence operations, truth often proves stranger than fiction.

The operation was the collaboration between the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), Army, and Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA).

Over a span of more than two decades, from 1972 to 1995, these psychic warriors were engaged in a variety of missions. There top-secret work included locating hostages, remote viewing and predicting future events.

This project blurred boundaries between science and the supernatural. And according to all the records it was a great success.

Psychic Warriors

Project Star Gate aimed to cultivate a group of "psychic warriors" to penetrate the veil of secrecy surrounding enemy installations, manipulate physical phenomena, and glimpse into the future.

The program, shrouded in secrecy, operated initially within a California research lab before relocating to an Army base in Maryland. Through rigorous scientific scrutiny, these alleged psychic abilities underwent painstaking and diligent testing, with the government investing millions to validate their authenticity.

Project Star Gate

In 2017, the CIA declassified some 12 million pages of records many of which are available on the Freedom of Information Act Electronic Reading Room. These documents reveal previously unknown details about the program, which would eventually become known as Project Star Gate.

Remote viewing emerged as the cornerstone of psychic reconnaissance. It enabled operatives to see events in distant lands and look into sealed envelopes with what has been called "uncanny precision."

Early experiments, including psychic message transmission and binary code replication, provided compelling evidence of its potential in intelligence gathering.

The psychic warriors were used in real operations. By 1983, the CIA had already conducted 700 missions involving psychics. According to the filed reports, their information was accurate 85 percent of the time.

That made the psychics just as accurate, as every other information-gathering technique that the CIA had at its disposal, at the time.

Finding the Missing

Law enforcement agencies sought assistance from psychics in solving complex criminal cases.

Studies funded by the CIA corroborated the efficacy of psychics in providing pivotal information, including the location of missing persons and unidentified remains.

Despite the apparent ambiguity of psychic visions, the integration of these insights into investigative protocols yielded tangible results, prompting the development of guidelines for law enforcement engagement.

During an international crisis, psychic warriors were often called upon.

During the Iran hostage crisis in 1979 and the abduction of Colonel William R. Higgins in Lebanon in 1988 the psychics were called in.

Through remote viewing sessions intelligence operatives claim they received crucial insights into the captives' whereabouts and captors' activities.

While not always resulting in successful interventions, these instances showed the potential for psychic reconnaissance in mitigating security threats.

Seeing the Future

Psychic warriors reportedly possessed the ability to foresee future events—a capability leveraged in military planning and strategic forecasting.

Classified experiments, including those conducted during Operation Desert Storm, yielded insights into impending developments, from military incursions to meteorological phenomena.

Psychic warfare extended beyond American borders, with Russia and China cultivating their own unique psychic operatives.

The Soviet Union's early forays into psychic experimentation prompted the CIA's interest. President Jimmy Carter ordered the investigation that would become Project Star Gate.

Details of Soviet and Chinese psychic programs remain scarce. But the evidence suggests a parallel pursuit of developing psychic warriors for intelligence and strategic advantage against the West.

Project Star Gate is a fascinating intersection of espionage and ESP, where the boundaries of perception are pushed beyond conventional limits.

Despite its eventual dismantling in 1995, the legacy of psychic warfare persists. The CIA took an unconventional road of intelligence gathering and psychic espionage. But if we can believe the Project Star Gate operation reports it was an overwhelming success.
