U.S. Representative Martha McSally is leading the Republican Senate primary in Arizona, according to the latest poll conducted by OH Predictive Insights (OHPI).
The poll showed that 39% of voters favor McSally, 24.5% support State Senator Kelli Ward, and almost 14% will vote for former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Based on the numbers, McSally is ahead by over 14% against Ward, who was previously on top of the Arizona GOP Senate primary. In the previous OHPI poll, Ward has a 9% lead against McSally.
The three candidates are seeking to replace retiring Republican Senator Jeff Flake in the U.S. Senate. Flake is a strong critic of President Donald Trump. Arizona is set to hold its primary on August 28.
McSally is an ally of Pres. Trump
According to OHPI chief pollster Mike Noble, McSally is gaining supporters among Republicans because she supports Pres. Trump. He also noted that cash is pouring into her campaign.
Noble said, “McSally is starting to tell her story, she’s flush with cash, and she benefited from her pivot to embrace Trump. That all puts her in the driver’s seat – or should I say the cockpit?”
