Republican Senator Urges President Trump Against Firing AG Sessions

The president has repeatedly censured Sessions for his decision to recuse himself from the Russia investigation. Trump felt that Sessions should have remained involved in the investigation.

Earlier this year, the president also slammed the attorney general’s management of FISA abuse allegations. Trump stated that Sessions should not have used the “Inspector General,” but instead “Justice Department lawyers.”

Since then, various Americans have speculated about whether Trump will relieve Sessions of his duties. Sessions hasĀ faced bipartisan calls for his resignation: Democrats believe the attorney general’s commentary and policies are inappropriate. Republicans, on the other hand, maintain that Sessions has failed to properly do his job, halt government corruption and subdue the president’s enemies.

In May, Trump publicly expressed regret about hiring Sessions because of his recusal. He stated that he wished he’d picked one of the other “really good lawyers.”
