To begin, teachers were told to recognize they were meeting on ‘stolen land’ from indigenous peoples. Afterward, two clips were shown to the teachers. One of Robin DeAngelo, author of “White Fragility” and another featuring Ibram X. Kendi, who wrote, “Be Antiracist: A Journal for Awareness, Reflection, and Action.”

Upon finishing the two clips the audience was then instructed to adopt ‘antiracist’ attitudes in the classroom where they will “confront and examine [their] white privilege” as well as “teach others to see their privilege.”

On top of offering ‘antiracist’ training, the school district has reformed its grading system in order to be more ‘equitable’. This led to the elimination of non-academic factors that influence grades including tardiness and classroom behavior.
