Space Weather: Two Space Storms Collide to Give Views of the Northern Lights

 At some point, the arcs may expand to fill the whole sky, moving rapidly and becoming very bright. This is the peak of what is called an auroral substorm.

In early morning hours the phenomena can take on a cloud-like appearance and patches of the sky often blink on and off repeatedly for hours. As the sun rises in the East its light drowns out the Northern Lights.
