Trump plans on banning TikTok as early as Saturday

Tensions between Beijing and Washington have been on the rise for some time due to repeated U.S. government claims that China steals intellectual property from American companies to the tune of billions of dollars. In addition, China’s highly controversial national security law imposed on Hong Kong and its actions in the South China Sea have only deteriorated U.S.-China relations.

Concern for TikTok is far from new. As early as December 2019, the Defense Information Systems Agency began advising Department of Defense personnel to refrain from using TikTok claiming a “potential risk associated with using the TikTok app.” TikTok has since seen a ban on government devices go before the House.
