Doug Ose, a supporter of President Donald Trump and a former U.S. congressman is considering a bid for California governor.

On Tuesday, Ose told Sacramento Bee that he is tired watching on the sidelines as politicians fail to address issues important to Californians. Some of these issues include high taxes, homelessness, housing markets, and underperforming schools across the state.

From 1999 to 2005, Ose served in the U.S. House of Representatives. He represented the third congressional district of California. He did not run for re-election because he set a term-limit for himself.

In 2014, he tried a congressional comeback in his old district. However, freshman Democrat Ami Bera defeated him.

According to Ose, “I know we can do better. We know what the Democrats are going to do. They are going to be captives of a Legislature dominated by Democrats. So I am taking a real look at the governor’s race.”

A strong Republican candidate for California governor

Over the past few weeks, Ose started showing up at political events. His attendance is catching the attention of Republicans who want to see him run.

Currently, the Republicans running for California governor are businessman John Cox and Assemblyman Travis Allen. Political observers see Ose as a strong Republican candidate for the gubernatorial race given his outstanding record during his term as congressman.

The Americans for Tax Reform recognized him as  “Hero of the Taxpayers" and "Guardian of Small Business" by National Federation of Independent Business. He also received the “Tax Fighter” award from the National Tax Limitation Committee.

Currently, Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom is holding a strong lead in the polls. His fellow Democrat former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Republican John Cox are closely battling for the second place.
