President Donald Trump called for death penalty for the New York terrorist who committed a deadly truck rampage on Tuesday.

In a tweet on Wednesday night, Trump said, “NYC terrorist was happy as he asked to hang ISIS flag in his hospital room. He killed 8 people, badly injured 12. SHOULD GET DEATH PENALTY.”

According to federal authorities, the New York terrorist named Sayfullo Saipov is a green card holder. He is a native of Uzbekistan residing in New Jersey. He entered the United States with a valid diversity immigrant visa in 2010.

Complaint filed against New York terrorist

On Wednesday, Saipov was in a wheelchair when he appeared in a federal court during his arraignment. The U.S. government charged him with providing material support for ISIS and violence and destruction of motor vehicles. He did not enter a plea.

In the complaint, FBI Special Agent Amber Tyree stated ISIS videos inspired Saipov to carry out the truck attack. He had been planning the attack over the past year. Two months ago, he decided to use a truck to inflict maximum damage to civilians.
