On Friday, irate, left-wing protesters harassed Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife Elaine Chao while the pair dined at a Kentucky restaurant, reports The Hill.

An Overview of the Incident

As McConnell and Chao ate, the angry protesters began to target them verbally. One individual questioned why the politicians wouldn't ”leave our entire country.” Other protesters chimed in, banging their fists on the politicians’ table. Another person stated that ”they're going to come for our Social Security.”

The confrontations continued in spite of other diners who urged the protesters to leave McConnell and Chao alone.

Shortly after the incident, a spokesperson for Connell issued the following public statement:

”The leader and Secretary Chao enjoyed their meal in Louisville last night and they appreciate those who spoke up against incivility. They hope other patrons weren't too inconvenienced by left-wing tantrums. As the leader often says, the Senate will not be intimidated by the antics of far-left protesters.”

The restaurant which hosted McConnell and Chao also released their own remarks:

”We deeply regret the incident that took place at our restaurant this weekend. We strongly believe everyone should feel welcome and safe in our restaurants.”

Over the last few months, the antics of left-wing protesters have concerned many Americans. Left-leaning individuals have taken to the streets on various occasions; many protests have turned violent and subsequently promoted arrests. Despite the increasing violence on the left, many leaders in the Democrat Party are not urging their supporters to behave civilly.

In fact, various Democrats have dismissed notions of civility altogether. Hillary Clinton recently professed that left-wing civility can commence after Democrats regain control of the House and Senate. Eric Holder delivered similar remarks; the former U.S. attorney general openly stated that Democrats should ”kick” Republicans who ”go low.”

Various members of the Trump administration have faced heckling in public and even outside their homes. Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul recently stated that someone may lose their life if political unrest continues on its current trajectory.
