Year after year you tell yourself you WILL get your holiday shopping done earlier. You will NOT procrastinate until the last second or weekend before the Holidays. Psyche. You waited until the last possible second, again. And you’re not alone. The National Retail Federation estimates that 134 million people waited until Super Saturday (the last Saturday before Christmas) to finalize their holiday shopping.

“Having made their lists and checked them twice, holiday shoppers have been out in full force these last few weeks, but many are still waiting to complete their shopping this weekend,” NRF President and CEO Matthew Shay said. “Retailers will use every opportunity to see that shoppers have a great experience in these final few days. Whether looking for competitive prices, festive in-store events or last-minute online shipping deals, retailers are ready to deliver.”

But, the biggest procrastinators won’t be done shopping until today and tomorrow. The NRF study reports that 7 percent of all shoppers will finish their Christmas shopping today. And the study also reports that a whopping 4 percent of all shoppers won’t finish Christmas shopping until AFTER the holiday is over.

“Last-minute shoppers are looking forward to the weekend this year to finalize their shopping plans before the big day,” Prosper Executive Vice President of Strategy Phil Rist said. “They are making sure to research everything from shipping deadlines to the best deals. Some are already looking to the days after Christmas to find treasures in the clearance bins.”

For shoppers waiting until after Christmas to buy all their gifts, they can expect to see plenty of good deals and sales. Clothes and accessories will make up the majority of post holiday deals. But you can also expect to see major sales on holiday decor, exercise equipment, and video games. And if you’re quick enough, you can find electronic deals better than Cyber Monday and Black Friday at national retailers.
