The gun control debate has been thrust back to the forefront of US cultural wars. This comes after Tuesday's horrific mass shooting at an Uvalde, Texas elementary school.

Democrats have argued that more gun control and nothing else is the answer to ending mass shootings.

Republicans, on the other hand, have cited a lack of school security, mental health warning signs, and more as factors that contributed to teachers and elementary school students losing their lives.

This is a terrible time for everyone, especially families who are hurting. However, as the calls for gun control get louder, their proponents face accusations of politicizing the Robb Elementary School shooting.

Former Vice President Mike Pence is now directly pushing back against gun control calls.

Pence on pro-gun control talking points

During a speech before the New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women, the former vice president didn't hold back.

Pence explained that while calls for gun control remain "predictable," this is not an effective policy to prevent mass shootings.

Likewise, the former vice president endorsed heightened safety measures in schools, along with strengthening law enforcement and taking on mental health challenges.

Pence then clearly stated that shooters, not guns themselves, bear responsibility for mass killings like the ones seen on Tuesday.

The former vice president even explicitly stated that robbing law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights won't bring about solutions.

Pushback from the Democrat Party

Of course, it didn't take long for Pence's criticism of gun control activism to spread.

A spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee later claimed that during Pence's time as former President Trump's vice president, both were "beholden" to the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Later in the statement, the DNC accused the former president and vice president of making commitments to survivors of shootings, only to later walk them back.

The Democrat Party continues to negate calls for mental health awareness or even increased security measures in school. The political left remains in lockstep with the view that gun control and gun control alone will end mass shootings.

To many Americans, this comes across as Democrats pursuing a partisan agenda, rather than truly considering all options to protect the lives of children.
