The suspect’s vehicle was spotted on Interstate 95 and was forced to a stop by law enforcement officers without incident. While the suspect is in custody, Snyder emphasized that investigators still need to confirm his involvement in the shooting.
The Secret Service, working closely with the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, released a statement affirming that they are investigating “a protective incident involving former President Donald Trump that occurred shortly before 2 p.m. [ET].” The agency reassured the public that Trump was unharmed during the incident.
Shortly after the shooting, Trump sent a fundraising email to his supporters, assuring them that he was safe. “But there are people in this world who will do whatever it takes to stop us,” he wrote.
The White House also responded to the situation, confirming that President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed on the “security incident at the Trump International Golf Course.”
The statement added that both were relieved to know that Trump was safe and would continue to receive updates.
