Earlier today, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich appeared on Fox & Friends.

During his time on air, Gingrich made an interesting prediction regarding Biden and the 2020 presidential election.

Reviewing Gingrich's Statements

According to the former House Speaker, Biden is a "doofus" who will eventually regress into radicalism.

In Gingrich's own words:

"Joe Biden will be a very radical Democrat by the time he gets there. Of course, he is a doofus. This is a guy who had to drop out of his first presidential campaign because he adopted the entire speech from Neil Kinnock about growing up in Wales."

During other portions of the interview, Gingrich moreover maintained that President Trump will win the 2020 presidential election. He described the president as highly "underestimated" and noted that his competition will be a radical Democrat whose values do not align with the majority of American voters.

Finally, Gingrich stated that the Democrats' only agenda is to beat President Trump. This makes sense in light of a recent poll which confirmed that Democrat voters care more about having a candidate who can beat the president than they care about policy matters.

Criticism from Both Sides

Despite Biden's lead amongst Democrat voters, he is a regular target of censure from Democrats and Republicans alike. In a nutshell, both sides have their grievances with the former vice president turned presidential candidate.

Biden's unpopularity amongst progressives within the Democrat Party is one of his biggest issues. Progressive Democrats do not believe Biden is far left enough; they've also slammed him for calling for a middle ground on various issues. The former vice president may maintain a lead amongst voters in his party, but will this lead last? Furthermore, will Biden be able to win the nomination to represent the Democrat Party in the general election?

Only time will tell.

Biden's unpopularity amongst Republicans and conservatives stems from the fact that he's simply not liked amongst the right-wing. While Biden may not be a far-left progressive (at least not now), he is definitely a Democrat. As someone who is hoping to take on President Trump in 2020, Biden is also a vocal critic of the current president.
