New York Governor Kathy Hochul made headlines by pointing fingers at Republicans, particularly former President Trump, during her appearance on The View. 

Hochul's claims regarding the border crisis are being widely disputed. Her insistence that Republicans are to blame for the current calamity are difficult to prove.

She made her comments despite previously touting New York as a “sanctuary state.” And more recently claiming that the asylum system was being abused and that migrants who commit crimes against police should be deported. 

She also failed to mention that President Biden dismantled the Trump executive orders and the agreement with Mexico that had decreased the number of illegal border entries.

She also did not elaborate on the fact that President Biden has the authority to send army reserve or national guard to the border. 

Earlier this year, she distanced herself from the chaos in the city when she indicated in a report that Mayor Eric Adams was to blame for the migrant situation.

Governor Hochul didn't mince words. She contended that a proposed Senate border deal could have alleviated the situation, but Trump's interference killed the bill.

According to Hochul, pressure from Trump on Republican lawmakers resulted in halting progress in addressing the crisis.

Critics pointed out inconsistencies in Hochul's stance. They cite her previous announcement that New York is a "sanctuary state." Her more recent acknowledgment of asylum system abuses. Moreover, Hochul failed to acknowledge President Biden's role in dismantling Trump-era executive orders and agreements with Mexico, which contributed to increased illegal border entries.

Political Fallout

Hochul's appearance on The View provided a platform for her stance on the border crisis. At one point she even emphasized the bipartisan nature of the problem. 

Nonetheless, her remarks assigning blame to Republicans for the failed border deal underscore the deep-rooted divide and finger-pointing prevalent in American politics.

Her comments align with a broader trend of political blame-shifting, where both parties seek to deflect responsibility for the chaos at the border.
