By Sunday afternoon, TikTok had begun restoring service to its US users following a sudden blackout that occurred late Saturday night. The outage came in response to a new US law banning TikTok, which took effect at midnight.

Initially, users were greeted with a message stating the app was unavailable due to the new legislation.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sunday afternoon, TikTok Policy announced, “In agreement with our service providers, TikTok is in the process of restoring service. We thank President Trump for providing the necessary clarity and assurance to our service providers that they will face no penalties providing TikTok to over 170 million Americans and allowing over 7 million small businesses to thrive.”
