During the holiday seasons, it’s not uncommon to see upticks in travel. Many people want to venture out, make the most of their time off, and otherwise enjoy themselves.

This is especially true of Memorial Day. Not only is this a federal holiday, but it also comes as the summer months approach. Travel correspondingly tends to increase during the summer.

However, as many Americans know, airlines have been having some severe issues since 2020. Air travel companies sought bailouts from the federal government in 2020 when travel largely ceased.

Yet, even as travelers are now pouring into airports, airlines remain saddled with difficulties. These difficulties include pilot shortages, inclement weather, and more.

Unfortunately, this created a situation where thousands of flights were cancelled during Memorial Day weekend.

What to know about travel issues during Memorial Day weekend

Between Saturday and Sunday, thousands of flights were either grounded altogether or delayed. The majority of flights with these issues were domestic; although, international travelers didn’t completely escape flight problems, either.
